Miramichi

Miramichi: Sunny side bed and breakfast
This is a huge mansion of a building, something that looms above the street like the house in the Addam’s Family. It’s a work in progress. The owners bought it at least 20 years ago (I was a bit confused about the date line—the hostess in the morning told us that the owner had a bed and breakfast for twenty years and had worked on the house for ten, so I didn’t know if that was consecutive or congruently. In any case, the house has had lots of work and still needs quite a bit of work. Our room was up two flights of stairs to the attic two bedroom suite. The one bedroom was in the dormer with sloped ceilings and a queen bed, the second bedroom has a double bed and then Asha had a cot in the living room. There was a full kitchen as well, so it was quite spacious if you were going to stay for a while, but since we didn’t end up getting in until after 10pm and left by 10am in the morning, it was space we didn’t use.
The stairs on the way up to the room were still under minimal construction (no rail on the second set). The attic area itself seemed mostly done, however. There were bugs inside (mostly ants but also spiders), but attics tend to have bugs. We were just glad there weren’t bats.
Breakfast in the morning was served at our discretion (we requested 9am) in the dining room and included a buffet set up with cereal (including dinosaur oatmeal which kesh appreciated), fruit, granola bars and then we were given an entrée of eggs (cooked to order) and bacon and homemade rye toast. We all enjoyed this meal. It was basic but good and filling. Another couple ate prior to us, but we were the only ones eating when we had our breakfast.
On our way out of town in the am, we went to Tim Hortons for our one visit so far this trip. The boys all got donuts which they said were good and Vive poured his coffee out. We’ve gone into a couple other of these but they are always so busy that we end up leaving without buying anything. It looks like they are quite popular in Canada. We then tried to take the boys to the local skateboard park which is fenced in and doesn’t open until 5pm, so we couldn’t go.

Oh, and by the way, we had no water in the middle of the night. I was really thirsty.
