St Jean Port Joli: Pirate of the Sea
We read about the lobster rolls at this restaurant, so we planned a lunch stop here. The review had said it was a tiny place on the water. Apparently, it has moved because it was a large place with lots of inside tables and a few picnic tables and it wasn’t on or near the water, but beside the Coop. We had to stop at the Visitor center to find the place. It wasn’t very busy when we got there but got steadily busier. We ordered chicken and chips, fish and chips, a hot dog and two lobster rolls. Justin didn’t like the chicken because it was chicken nuggets, but kesh ate them. The fries were good, greasy and real potatoes (at least in eastern Canada, they like their fries and so far they’ve been good wherever we’ve ordered them) and a huge amount. The two servings we ordered were more than we all could eat. Kesh was not so fond of his hot dog and Asha liked her fish. The lobster rolls were good. They are served in a top sliced open bun that is lightly toasted (to me, this is like wonder bread and I’m not so fond of it, but it definitely does not compete the the taste or texture of the lobster itself so maybe it’s doing its job). The lobster meat is mixed with mayo and not much else as far as I could tell so you get to really taste the lobster. They are rich and I didn’t finish mine and Vive gave bites to the kids and we were full. The price was very reasonable; all that food was $25. The lobster rolls were on special for 2 for $8.95.
It does take a good ten to fifteen minutes to get your food, but the boys played outside at the picnic tables. The town itself was pretty nice too. It’s right on the sea with water all around and lots of little fish shacks and restaurants.
