Annapolis royal, NS
We were expecting another Lunenburg but they really aren’t much alike. Annapolis Royal has lots of bed and breakfasts but does not seem like that big a tourist area. We literally couldn’t find a shop selling local clothing. There are several small diners, a few good restaurants, lots of closed stores and a beautiful fort that overlooks the bay with these enormous tides. We went down to the bay to see both tides and they are spectacular. The view from the fort were simply outstanding. I could have sat there and watched for hours. How can this be preferable to walmart?
The Fort is called Fort Anne after Queen Anne from England in the 18th century. We were told that the French and British fought over this area of Canada from 1604 through the 18th century until the British ended up with it in the mid 1700’s and thus named the fort after Anne who was Queen then. Anne, we were also told, had 17 children all of which died before she did and she died at 45. What a life.
We wandered downtown and found a flyer about a skateboard park but we couldn’t find it. The flowers and views were worth the wandering though.
