Ottawa, Best Western
Unfortunately for us, the Best Western’s central location means that it sits right in the midst of construction central and Sally (our GPS) does not know about this construction so getting to the hotel becomes a bit of a crap shoot; we drive and Sally “recalculates” the route until we get on a street that can take us to the hotel. But, the hotel itself is quite nice with two room suites and are spacious, sunny and recently renovated with marble counters and full kitchen supplies (but not full kitchens—just a micro and a fridge). Parking is onsite in the garage under the hotel and has in and out privileges. We wish it had airport transportation to get Vive and Kesh, but they’ll take a city shuttle that runs to the hotels.
To the north of the hotel are all the sites in Ottawa. We wander in the evening a bit on our way to dinner and in the completely torn up street where pedestrians are allowed (but cars are not), we find coffee shops and retail and stuff for locals including little ethnic restaurants. One thing we do not find in all of our wandering is a little grocery which is strange. Most urban areas have lots of little groceries. We do find an organic market but it’s emphasis on soy and whole grains defeats us and we don’t buy anything (we don’t like soy and we don’t trust whole grains in desserts).
Breakfast in the morning includes a wide selection of cold things including hard boiled eggs and croissants and some toasting breads as well. There aren’t any donuts here. And we haven’t seen any candy stores so maybe the sugar junkies are the Western Canadians (maybe I should stop making such vast overgeneralizations!).
